Greg Loiacono Band At Sweetwater April 6th

On April 6th, Greg Loiacono brings his band to The Sweetwater in Mill Valley, CA. Loiacono’s new album, Songs From a Golden Dream, has been met with critical acclaim. Glide Magazine called the album “stunning” and “a breath of fresh air” and “a brilliantly crafted document of a man and his music that weaves the listener, thread by musical thread, through blues, rock, psychedelia and acid-tinged country. Paul Liberatore at the Marin Independent Journal concurs. “As one of Marin’s most accomplished musicians and songwriters, Loiacono incorporates surprising and seamless chord changes on the country-ish “Ship of Fear,” distinguished by the pedal steel touches of Lefty Knight, and the Knopfler-esque guitar work of “Tell It to the Trees.”

Along with Mother Hips bass player, Scott Thunes, Todd Roper, Alex Koford and Dave Zirbel, Loiacono will be playing songs from Songs From a Golden Dream as well as Loiacono’s material from The Mother Hips and Sensations. Read More

Crepe Place, Santa Cruz – January 27, 2017

Steely-eyed Greg Loiacono is known as the axeman for Bay Area legends the Mother Hips, but the silver-fleck-haired virtuoso has a new passion project that’s gaining momentum. Loiacono’s latest solo work is called Songs from a Golden Dream, a collection of chestnuts and gems, written over the last 10 years that either never made the Mother Hips rotation or were designed specifically for the recently debuted album. When he brings it live to the Crepe Place on Friday, Jan. 27, he will be accompanied by members of the band San Geronimo (who have held residency at Terrapin Crossroads, Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh’s musical sanctuary in Marin, for two and a half years). Album Review – Dirty Impound

Songs From A Golden Dream, the solo debut from The Mother Hips’ Greg Loiacono is a melodically rich poem, a series of thoughtful, gorgeously carved passages that interweave even as each section stands squarely on its own. Rock & roll is rarely so nakedly philosophical or delicately revealing, yet the whole album moves with limber, graceful elegance, each wave delivering one to a new shore in a shared landscape where a sort of Gnostic sensuality rules, the body served by throbbing rhythms but always dancing with holy spirits and capricious gods, a sense of purposeful, introspective movement inescapable as one travels through “doors of ancient verse” and over choppy seas until the world without is reflected within – and vice-versa. Interview – Glide Magazine

Greg Loiacono is a twenty-five year veteran musician most known for his long and storied career as co-front man and songwriter for vaunted Bay Area band, The Mother Hips. In late September Loiacono released a stunning solo record, Songs From A Golden Dream, that has both long time fans and newcomers to his sound buzzing. The record is a breath of fresh air, a departure from the sound of The Mother Hips and a brilliantly crafted document of a man and his music that weaves the listener, thread by musical thread, through blues, rock, psychedelia and acid-tinged country. Album Review – Marin Independent Journal

Singer-songwriter-guitarist Greg Loiacono didn’t cheat himself on his debut solo album.

It’s as if the Mother Hips co-founder tried everything he’d ever wanted to put on a record on “Songs from a Golden Dream.” He soared into psychedelia with the sitar sounds of “I Can’t be Your Anything” and the twangy “Away from the Stones,” with its acid-trippy lead guitar break. And he nodded to the pretension of a concept album on a trio of tracks, each called “The Red Thread,” that form a kind of beginning, middle and end to this ambitious collection of 11 original songs.
